On the day he was to go to trial in Lucas County Common Pleas Court on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, Quintin Helm asked for a new lawyer and a new trial date.

Helm, 21, of 635 E. Hudson St. is charged in the Nov. 30 shooting death of Tyrone Patterson, Jr., 23, who authorities say was shot at East Delaware Avenue and Walnut Street.

If convicted, Helm faces up to life in prison.

On Tuesday, Judge Stacy Cook granted Helm’s request to hire an attorney and set a Dec. 11 trial date.

She warned Helm that he would not be given another new trial date.

Helm was arrested in May after a reward posting prompted calls about his whereabouts.

At the time of the shooting, he was on community control for a 2010 burglary conviction.
