A University of Toledo student accused of assaulting several campus police officers and students was being held in the Lucas County jail Tuesday night.

JaVonn Morgan, 18, of Perry, Ohio, was ordered during arraignment Tuesday in Toledo Municipal Court to be held in the jail in lieu of $75,000 bond for one count of felonious assault and two counts of assault.

The first-year student is accused of pushing a desk worker early Monday morning at the on-campus residence hall where he lives — 1760 W. Rocket Dr. — and then getting into an altercation with several men on the building’s first floor. When police arrived, one officer was kicked in the chest, fell back, and hit his head on the wall. Two other officers reportedly were injured as they tried to arrest the suspect.

Police believe drugs were a factor in the incident.

Mr. Morgan is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Friday.
