MONROE -- A pretrial hearing for two men arrested in the June beating death of a Monroe man is set for Thursday, authorities said.

Zimmerman Pippens, 38, and Kevin Oliver, 45, were each charged with open murder and with manslaughter in the bludgeoning death of Roman Jackson, according to Jack Simms, Jr., Monroe County chief assistant prosecuting attorney. Their pretrial hearing will be held by Judge Jack Vitale of Monroe District Court.

The victim died June 10, apparently after he was injured in a fight. The motive was not released.
