BOWLING GREEN — A McComb, Ohio, woman who police say faked a cancer diagnosis to get financial support was indicted this week on a charge of theft from an elderly person or disabled adult.

A Wood County grand jury returned the indictment against Kimberlie Gustwiller, 38, alleging she stole “property or services” from 10 individuals “among others” by deception on or about Sept. 7. The victims in the case were elderly or disabled, the indictment states, and the amount taken was between $7,500 and $37,500.

Ms. Gustwiller was arrested by North Baltimore Police in September after police learned she had received several thousand dollars from community members and others who reached out to help her after they were told the single mother had been diagnosed with Stage IV non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Police said she did not have cancer.

Her case was assigned to Wood County Common Pleas Judge Alan Mayberry.
