The arraignment for a Toledo man charged with striking two pedestrians with his vehicle, killing one, was postponed for a second time in Lucas County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday to give Michael Yates time to hire an attorney.

Judge Myron Duhart moved Mr. Yates’ arraignment to next Tuesday. Mr. Yates, 41, of Ironwood Avenue is charged with one count each of aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. He faces up to 13 years in prison if convicted.

Police said Mr. Yates lost control of his vehicle about 8:20 p.m. July 21 while driving east on Miami Street near the northbound I-75 exit ramp, when he swerved off the right side of the road and hit two women who were walking west along Miami.

Stefanie Arnold, 27, of the Cleveland suburb of Painesville, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. Chelsea Skoch, 23, of Madison, Ohio, was injured.
