A second man involved in robberies last year that led to two people’s shooting deaths was sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday to 18 years in prison.

Darrick Newsome, 19, of 3442 Beaumont Dr. entered an Alford plea earlier this month to one count of involuntary manslaughter with a gun specification and two counts of robbery. Judge Gene Zmuda sentenced him to seven years for the manslaughter count, three years for the gun specification, and four years for each robbery count, to be served consecutively.

Newsome was one of six men involved in the crimes that resulted in the November, 2011, shooting deaths of Darnell Townsend-Tall and Raynail Gaiter.

Co-defendant Reynard Lewis, 21, of 3815 Revere Dr., was sentenced Nov. 16 to 30 years to life in prison after entering a plea to two counts of murder for the deaths.
