KENTON, Ohio — A bartender who served at least 24 shots of alcohol to a 21-year-old at an Ada bar was sentenced Monday to a day in jail and ordered to pay a $200 fine, perform 16 hours of community service, and serve six months probation.

Joseph L. Jarvi, 33, was convicted of furnishing intoxicating liquor to an intoxicated person at the Regal Beagle Bar. Bar owner Richard L. Cribley, 61, is to appear in Hardin County Municipal Court in March on a charge of sale or furnishing intoxicating liquor to an intoxicated person.

The charges were the result of an investigation by the Ohio Investigative Unit. It was contacted by Ada police after the bar customer was in intensive care with alcohol poisoning.

After the criminal proceedings, administrative charges against the liquor permit holder are expected to be presented to the Ohio Liquor Control Commission.
