A Toledo man charged in separate shootings earlier this year that resulted in the death of one man and injuries to others will have a Feb. 4 trial date in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

James Sutton, 21, of 942 Collins appeared in court Wednesday where Judge Gary Cook set a trial date. He is charged with one count of murder and three counts of felonious assault, each with gun and gang specifications. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

Mr. Sutton is charged in the April 15 shooting death of Torian Tall, 25, who was shot behind a Valero gas station in the 3300 block of Monroe Street. He also is charged with felonious assault for allegedly shooting into a crowd in the 100 block of South Byrne Road on Feb. 19, striking Brent Cook, 24, and Dennis Garrett, 20. He was arrested April 20 in Eau Claire, Wis., and extradited to Ohio. He is in custody in lieu of $500,000 bond.
