Ex-police officer in Seneca County sentenced for stealing while in office

TIFFIN -- A former police officer for the Seneca County village of Bloomville was sentenced Monday to six months in prison for stealing from the village.

William R. Laugherty, 28, of Tiffin, was found guilty Nov. 8 of theft in office, a fifth-degree felony, following a jury trial. He had committed a series of thefts from the village during 2011.

Common Pleas Judge Michael Kelbley sentenced Laugherty and ordered him to pay $1,029.80 in restitution to the village.
