Slaying suspect sent by court for evaluation

A Toledo man charged with the 2008 murder of a woman whose burned body was found in an abandoned house has been referred in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for an evaluation to determine if he is eligible for a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.

Ronald Martin, 60, is charged with two alternate counts of murder and faces life in prison if convicted. He is accused of strangling 40-year-old Lynette Lenora Reid on Sept. 17, 2008, then burning her body.

Judge Myron Duhart on Tuesday granted the defense request to refer Martin for an evaluation for both a possible plea as well as to determine if he is capable to stand trial.
