2 Toledo women face tax counts

Two Toledo women have been indicted in U.S. District Court for allegedly filing false claims for income tax refunds.

Lajuana Batey, 35, and Shereece Coffey, 30, both of Toledo along with Latoya Batey, 24, and Beverly Burns, 26, both of Arlington, Texas, have been charged with conspiracy and making false claims.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the four women submitted the false returns with the IRS between 2009 and 2011 then shared proceeds totaling about $179,750 among themselves and others.
