Toledo man indicted in fatal shooting

Already in jail on charges he killed his girlfriend, a Toledo man was indicted Thursday for a homicide that occurred a month earlier.

Traquawn Gibson, 18, of 2720 Elm St. was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury for murder with a firearms specification, felonious assault, aggravated robbery, and participating in a criminal gang.

The charges stem from an incident Oct. 18 in the 1900 block of Fernwood Avenue in which Deontae Allen, 19, was fatally shot, and Limmie Reynolds III, 20, was shot but survived.

Jeff Lingo, chief of the criminal division for the prosecutor’s office, said investigators allege Mr. Gibson and two others approached a car in which Mr. Allen and Mr. Reynolds were seated about 10 p.m. Mr. Gibson pulled out a gun and demanded money, police said. Mr. Allen, Mr. Reynolds, and another man who had been on the car’s passenger side jumped out and ran. Shots were fired, and the two men were struck, authorities said.

The indictment alleges Mr. Gibson engaged in the criminal behavior as part of a gang.

“...We’re glad Toledo Police did a thorough investigation and were able to take him off the streets,” Mr. Lingo said.

Exactly a month after the Fernwood shooting, prosecutors say Mr. Gibson shot and killed his girlfriend, CreJonnia Bell, 19. Ms. Bell’s family says she tried to end her relationship with Mr. Gibson. He is being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $1 million bond.
