Sentencing set for Toledoan who tried to hit officer with car

A Toledo woman who fled from police after trying to hit a police officer with a vehicle is to be sentenced March 12 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Ebony Harris, 30, of 844 13th St., was found guilty by Judge Myron Duhart on Monday of one count of failing to comply with a police officer’s order after entering an Alford plea to the charge. In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit to committing a crime but acknowledges the evidence is sufficient for a conviction.

As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors said they will ask for a felonious assault charge to be dismissed at sentencing.

Ms. Harris was arrested May 5 after police dispersing a rowdy crowd at Big’z Bar and Grill, 2600 W. Sylvania Ave., said a car traveled toward officers at a high rate of speed and then turned toward a sergeant, who leapt out of the way.
