Bond was set at $50,000 Thursday for a Toledo man accused of assaulting a roommate while driving in a car, and then refusing to drop her off, causing her to jump out of the moving vehicle.

William Pigott III, 40, of Upton Avenue appeared in Toledo Municipal Court on one charge of abduction in the incident.

Toledo police claim Julie Porter, 35, was injured when she jumped out of his car at I-75 and Bancroft Street about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Mr. Pigot was ordered held in lieu of bond at the Lucas County jail pending a preliminary hearing March 1.

Ms. Porter was treated Thursday at Toledo Hospital, a hospital spokesman said.

The victim told police that the suspect got angry at her while giving her a ride home from her friend’s place because she had called police on him in an earlier incident, according to a police report.

While driving, the suspect allegedly screamed at her and refused to drop her off. She told police he then repeatedly punched and slapped her and then swerved, accelerated, and headed for a bridge abutment, causing her to fear for her life, according to the report.

She ended up jumping out of the car, rolling, and hitting her head on the pavement, police wrote in the report.
