A Toledo man pleaded no contest today to involuntary manslaughter and robbery in the beating death of an elderly man last year.

Julian Boyd, 38, was then found guilty and sentenced by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Stacy Cook to 13 years in prison.

Boyd had been indicted for murder and domestic violence in connection with the May 5 assault on Raymond Darden, 81, and his wife, Marion, 81.

Prosecutors said Boyd punched Mrs. Darden, who is his aunt, and assaulted Mr. Darden, who died July 4 of blunt-force trauma injuries.

Defense attorney Jane Roman told the court Boyd, who suffers from mental illness, had not been taking his prescribed medications for about two months when the attack occurred.
