South Toledo man faces dog-fighting charges

A Toledoan has been indicted on six counts of dog fighting for allegedly possessing six “pit bull” type dogs that investigators say were fight-trained.

Carl Steward, 54, of 230 S. Fearing Blvd. was indicted earlier this week by a Lucas County grand jury on the fourth-degree felonies.

Jevne Meader, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor, said police responding to a report of a break-in at the Fearing residence found the dogs and determined Steward was the owner. The dogs — five females and a male — were taken to the Lucas County Dog Warden’s office. Toledo police found dog training equipment, syringes, and assorted dog drugs.
