DES MOINES — The Iowa Court of Appeals on Wednesday upheld a $32.8 million jury award against Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. related to a 2007 rollover crash.

Court records show there were seven people in a van when it crashed on U.S. Highway 65 northeast of Des Moines. One was killed and another paralyzed.

The survivors sued Cooper, claiming the left rear tire was defectively designed and manufactured.

A spokesman for Findlay-based Cooper Tire said the company disagreed with the court’s decision and was exploring a possible appeal.
