A suspended Toledo Public Schools teacher pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court to receiving child pornography on his home computer.

Bruce Omlor, 50, faces at least five years in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 10 by Judge Jack Zouhary. As part of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors, charges of distribution and possession of child pornography are to be dismissed at the time of sentencing.

Omlor, a special education teacher at Riverside Elementary, was placed on paid leave in April, 2012, after the school district was contacted by federal investigators seeking his work computer. In December, he was indicted on the three charges, prompting TPS to suspend him without pay at that time.

Omlor’s attorney, John Potts, said after today’s hearing that none of the activity affected his employment or his students.

“Mr. Omlor is accepting responsibility for conduct that took place on his own personal computer in the privacy of his own home,” Mr. Potts said.

Patty Mazur, spokesman for TPS, said the school district will review his employment status “pending the final ruling of the court.”
