Woman guilty of filing false claims with IRS

A Toledo woman pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to filing false claims for income tax refunds.

Shereece Coffey, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and six counts of making false, fictitious, or fraudulent claims before U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey Helmick. Sentencing was scheduled for Nov. 4.

Coffey and three other women were indicted in January for submitting claims to the Internal Revenue Service between 2009 and 2011 and sharing proceeds totaling $179,750 among themselves and others.
