A Toledo man pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to illegally dumping trash bags filled with cancer-causing asbestos waste. Timothy Bayes, 32, pleaded guilty to illegal disposal of asbestos before U.S. District Court Magistrate James Knepp. He is to be sentenced Nov. 18 by Judge James Carr.

Bayes and John Mayer, 52, of Toledo, were indicted May 1 on charges they violated the Clean Air Act and regulations involving the removal and disposal of asbestos-containing material. At Mr. Mayer’s direction, Bayes allegedly was paid $150 to $200 in 2010 to dispose of 82 garbage bags containing insulation from a warehouse in Toledo. The waste was found at one site in East Toledo and two in North Toledo.
