A Toledo man who stole money and property from his 76-year-old father to feed a drug habit was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison followed by six months in the Correctional Treatment Facility in Toledo.

Mark Polcwiartek, 43, of 5956 Holly Glen Dr. was found guilty of two counts of robbery July 25 following a jury trial in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Judge Frederick McDonald said Polcwiartek verbally abused his father, calling him from jail to get him to testify that the items were gifts.

The victim in the case, Frank Polcwiartek, told the court his son was a good person who has an addiction problem.

But Judge McDonald said that while he understood that sentiment, the son’s actions were “at best, reprehensible. ... This case is not about drug abuse. This case is about elder abuse.”
