A Waterville income-tax preparer who failed to file income tax returns on more than $1.3 million in personal income is to be sentenced Jan. 23 in federal court.

Ronald D. Durbin, 72, principal officer and operator of Citizens Tax Service, pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court to four counts of failing to file and pay income tax returns on income of $286,604 in 2006, $306,620 in 2007, $363,031 in 2008, and $348,881 in 2009.

Prosecutors said Durbin used someone else’s name as the owner of his business and used someone else’s name on bank accounts to conceal his income.
