A former corrections officer at the Lucas County jail pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges she took part in a drug-smuggling ring at the jail.

Michelle Vining, 33, of 3646 Drummond Rd. was arraigned before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda, who granted a recognizance bond and scheduled a pretrial hearing for Sept. 13.

Ms. Vining is charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs, trafficking in marijuana, and illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a detention facility.

Salina Perez, 29, of 135 Milford St. was arraigned on the same charges Wednesday and released on a supervised recognizance bond. She is accused of getting the drugs to the jail with the help of Ms. Vining, who is accused of then delivering the drugs to inmate Jesse Perez, 33, of 1003 Mott Ave. for use or sale in the jail.
