Point Place man, 22, avoids prison time for accident that killed his 19-year-old brother

Judge Stacy Cook sentenced Zachary Fisher, 22, to five years of community control after he pleaded no contest to aggravated vehicular homicide in the September 2012 death of his brother Eric Fisher.

A Point Place man was placed on community control for five years today for causing a crash that killed his younger brother.

Zachary Fisher, 22, of 2720 106th St., had pleaded no contest Aug. 8 and was found guilty of aggravated vehicular homicide in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. The charge stemmed from the Sept. 11, 2012, death of his brother, Eric Fisher, 19.

Judge Stacy Cook ordered him to spend six months in the Lucas County Work Release Program and follow a long list of conditions that include speaking to students and driver intervention classes about his experience.

“You are a young man that has the ability to step up and be the face to these young people and understand how quickly a decision can go bad,” Judge Cook said.

Fisher lost control of his car on a curve in the 1600 block of Summit Street about 2:30 a.m. and struck two utility poles, which sheared off the right side of the car. His blood-alcohol level was 0.14, well above the legal limit of 0.08, prosecutors said.
