A nurse’s aide was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Wednesday on charges she befriended an elderly man and stole more than $75,000 from him.

Ammie Carmona, 36, of 1711 Kelsey Ave. was charged with theft from an elderly person or disabled adult, grand theft, Medicaid eligibility fraud, and tampering with records.

Prosecutors said she gained the trust of an 87-year-old patient at a nursing home where she was employed and convinced him to write checks to her between June, 2008, and June, 2012. At the same time, she allegedly collected food stamps, cash, day care, and medical assistance without reporting the monetary gifts she received from the victim.
