The owner of three Sandusky-area restaurants pleaded guilty Wednesday to skimming more than $1.8 million in cash from the businesses.

Haralambos Gonos, 52, appeared in U.S. District Court before Judge Jeffrey Helmick, where he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to structure financial transactions to evade filing currency transaction reports, conspiracy to structure financial transactions to evade filing Form 8300, and conspiracy to engage in bulk cash smuggling.

Mr. Gonos, who was indicted on the charges in April along with his wife and three sons, is to be sentenced Feb. 11. His sons, Andreas Gonos, 28; Chris Gonos, 32, and Kyriakos Gonos, 30, pleaded guilty to a single conspiracy charge earlier this month. They also are to be sentenced Feb. 11. Federal prosecutors said Gonos took cash from Dianna’s Deli and two other eateries and tried to take more than $14,700 to Greece.
