Jaquan Faulkner, 17, charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and felonious assault with a gun specification for a Friday shooting, will be certified as an adult, court officials said Monday .

Certification of the Toledo teen is mandatory because of the aggravated robbery charge, said Lucas County Assistant Prosecutor Lori Olender.

The hearing is scheduled for Friday; a pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Nov. 14, both in Lucas County Juvenile Court with Judge Denise Navarre-Cubbon. He was ordered by the judge Monday to remain in detention at the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center until the hearings.

Ms. Olender said the Faulkner youth was released from the Department of Youth Services on Sept. 8 and was on parole at the time of his arrest Friday.

In 2011, he was found delinquent of aggravated robbery and spent almost a year in the Department of Youth Services, but was eventually sent back because of motions filed on probation violations.

Police allege that the Faulkner youth offered Michael Carrington, 30, and Georgia Kuch, 35, $5 for a ride from an East Toledo gas station to the 1100 block of Waverly Avenue on Friday morning.

When the trio arrived on Waverly, police allege that the teen opened the door as if to get out, but then put a gun to the back of Mr. Carrington's head and said, “Give it all up.” He then put the gun to Ms. Kuch’s head and said, “Give me your purse too, [expletive]. I’'m not playing around,” according to a police report.

Mr. Carrington accelerated quickly and one shot was fired, hitting Mr. Carrington in his left shoulder.

The teen was arrested after an hours-long standoff with Toledo police on Montrose Avenue.
