FREMONT -- Andrew Gans, the Ohio Turnpike driver whose speeding car allegedly caused a Thanksgiving crash that killed a Toledo couple, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to aggravated vehicular homicide during an arraignment today in Sandusky County Common Pleas Court.

His $1 million cash or surety bond was continued over from a lower court.

The 24-year-old Kent man faces four counts of aggravated vehicular homicide after a Thanksgiving night turnpike crash that killed Wilbur and Margaret McCoy of Toledo.

Authorities said Mr. Gans’ vehicle was speeding at more than 125 miles per hour when it struck the McCoys’ minivan.

Mr. Gans’ attorney Terrence Rudes could not be reached for immediate comment.
