A Toledo woman who admitted she stabbed her boyfriend during a confrontation has been convicted of felonious assault.

A jury returned the verdict Thursday against Meika Gibson, 26, of 1909 Arlington Ave. after a three-day trial in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. Judge Ruth Ann Franks set sentencing for March 27.

Gibson took the stand during her trial, telling the jury she had acted in self-defense Dec. 20 when she plunged a knife into the chest of William Disher, whose age was unavailable. Defense attorney Beau Harvey said in his closing argument that the couple and her aunt had been out when they returned home and a drunken Mr. Disher began assaulting her.

Mike Loisel, an assistant prosecutor, said Gibson, who suffered no injuries, removed the knife from Mr. Disher’s chest, cleaned it, put it away, and lied to police.
