A Lucas County grand jury Tuesday declined to indict a Toledo man who fatally shot another man in the 100 block of West Park Street in self-defense.

The grand jury returned a “no bill” against Sanford Stewart, who shot James Bragg, 21, after Mr. Bragg confronted him with a gun on the porch of 123 W. Park St.

Toledo police spokesman Sgt. Joe Heffernan said Mr. Bragg had gone to Mr. Stewart’s house and was angry and armed with a gun. When he pulled a gun on Mr. Stewart, Mr. Stewart pulled out his own gun and shot him in the abdomen.
