An 83-year-old Toledo driver who allegedly struck and killed a man walking in a northwest Toledo street pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to stop after an accident.

Robert Conboy of 5066 Jamieson Dr. was headed east in the 3500 block of West Alexis Road about 8:50 p.m. Feb. 12 when police say he struck Donald Galdys, 59, of Toledo, who was walking west in the eastbound curb lane. Police said Mr. Conboy fled the scene, but a witness followed his vehicle and reported the license plate to police.

The indictment alleges Mr. Conboy was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda ordered that Mr. Conboy remain free on his own recognizance with the understanding that he live with his son at 4908 Monac Dr. A pretrial hearing was set for April 9.
