A home health aide convicted of stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly man she took care of was placed on community control for five years Tuesday.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge James Bates also ordered that Ammie Carmona, 37, of 1711 Kelsey Ave., has no contact with the victim, undergoes a mental health evaluation, and pays restitution of $150,000 to the victim and $122,015 to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Carmona entered Alford pleas March 25 to theft from an elderly or disabled adult and Medicaid eligibility fraud. In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit to committing a crime, but acknowledges evidence is sufficient for a conviction that could result in a more severe sentence.

In addition to obtaining the money from her victim, prosecutors said she failed to report the income she received from him while she was receiving benefits from the state.
