Two Memphis residents were sent to prison Thursday for their roles in a multistate check-forging scam.

Khiyenne Daniel, 19, and Terry Bean, 43, each had pleaded guilty earlier this month in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity for cashing counterfeit Kroger Co. payroll checks at Fifth Third Bank locations inside area Kroger stores.

Judge Dean Mandros sentenced Daniel to two years in prison and Bean to three years and ordered both to pay $2,700 in restitution.

He noted that while the loss to Toledo-area stores was $2,700, the loss to Kroger as a whole was more than $100,000.

Two co-defendants, both from Memphis, previously pleaded guilty to the same charge.

Monique Shanklin, 27, was sentenced Tuesday to two years, and Vinton Barnes, 22, is to be sentenced June 5.
