Suspect in Fostoria fatal fire to be evaluated

Shey Weiker pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity

TIFFIN — A defendant in a May 26 fatal arson case pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity today during a hearing in Seneca County Common Pleas Court.

Shey Weiker, 31, of Fostoria, is accused of using a railroad flare to start a fire at 614 S. Poplar St., in Fostoria that killed two people and sent one to the hospital. She faces one count each of aggravated arson, aggravated murder, murder, and attempted murder. Following her plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, Seneca County Common Pleas Judge Michael P. Kelbley ordered an evaluation of the defendant.

Danny Marker, Jr., 48, and Tara Vance, 44, died in the fire, and a third person was injured.

Timothy Hall, 20, and Charles Schaeffer, 44, both of Fostoria, have also been indicted in connection with the incident. Mr. Schaeffer faces one count of complicity to aggravated arson, one count of complicity to aggravated murder, one count of complicity to murder, and one count of complicity to attempted murder. Mr. Hall faces one count of tampering with evidence and two counts of obstructing justice.

All three suspects remain in Seneca County Jail without bond.
