A Curtice, Ohio, man who was allegedly drag racing on Howard Road when his car crashed, killing his passenger, was ordered to surrender his driver’s license Thursday.

Cody Slinker, 20, pleaded not guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros for the April 21 death of Zachary Brantley, 14. Judge Mandros set bond at $25,000 and ordered that if Mr. Slinker posts bond, that he be under house arrest with electronic monitoring.

Charles Swint, 31, of Curtice, who was allegedly driving the other car, was permitted to remain free on house arrest with electronic monitoring. Swint, who does not have a valid driver’s license, is to return for arraignment on the same charge July 17.

A third co-defendant, Linda Nevills, 63, of Curtice pleaded not guilty to obstructing justice for allegedly giving false information to investigators.
