Toledo man arraigned after making threats at carryout

A Toledo man who was shot by a carryout owner Monday night was arraigned Wednesday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Jerold Riley, 19, who also goes by Jerold Evans, of 855 Avondale Ave., is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and aggravated menacing. His bond was set at $120,000 and he was ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail. A July 16 preliminary hearing is scheduled.

Mr. Riley, on probation for a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction, was shot by Bobby Howard, 71, owner of Howard’s Drive-Thru, 1001 Nebraska Ave. Mr. Riley was in the central Toledo carryout Monday night, and making threats to his ex-girlfriend. At some point, Mr. Howard shot Mr. Riley once in the back.

Police do not anticipate charging Mr. Howard, citing self defense.
