A Toledo gang member accused of shooting a 17-year-old boy in the arm entered an Alford plea Monday to a reduced charge of attempted aggravated assault.

Shane Luce, 22, had been charged with felonious assault, but prosecutors agreed to amend the charge because of evidentiary issues. Luce, who faces up to a year in prison, was charged in the shooting of Preston Horton of Toledo during a March 30 gang fight in the 300 block of Somerset Street in South Toledo.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Michael Goulding found him guilty and set sentencing for Aug. 18. In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit to a crime but acknowledges evidence is sufficient for a conviction that could result in a more severe sentence.
