23-year-old man indicted in shooting death of teen

A Lucas County grand jury Friday indicted Christian Jackson in the June 10, 2011, murder of Montelle Taylor.

Jackson, 23, of 1338 Grand Ave. was charged with murder with a firearm specification in the shooting death of the 17-year-old who was shot twice in the chest and once in an arm on Auburn Avenue near Bancroft Street. The teenager died at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.

“I would talk to him futuristically and he would say, ‘I don’t know if I’ll make it,’ ” said the victim’s mother, Shannon Lipkinssilar, in the days after her son’s death. Ms. Lipkinssilar, who suffered from renal failure, died less than six months later.

Court records show Jackson has been in prison since November, 2011, when he was sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to six years for aggravated robbery.

In December, 2013, Jackson was sentenced in Richland County Common Pleas Court to six months in prison after he pleaded no contest to assault on a corrections officer.

According to Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction records, he is scheduled for release from prison Feb. 7, 2018.

Robert Miller, chief of the special units division for the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, said the office had no comment on Jackson’s most recent indictment. Toledo police Detective Jeff Clark, who investigated the case, could not be reached for comment.

Jackson and the Taylor youth were accused of breaking and entering March 31, 2010, into Flav’s Variety Store, 2036 Smead Ave. Jackson was charged with breaking and entering, but was found guilty in Toledo Municipal Court of criminal trespassing.
