Inmate guilty of kicking sprinkler head in jail

A Perrysburg Township man who kicked out a sprinkler head above his bed at the Correctional Treatment Facility in Toledo was found guilty Monday of felony vandalism for the incident that caused some $44,000 in damages.

A jury returned the verdict against David Healey, 24, following a one-day trial in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. Healey faces up to 18 months and a restitution order when he is sentenced Sept. 9 by Judge Frederick McDonald.

Patricia Wardrop, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor, said Healey had been at CTF for just three days for an unrelated burglary conviction when he kicked the sprinkler head March 22, causing 500 gallons of water a minute to flow for 107 minutes.
