Was 'American Idol' rigged to let Kris Allen win?

5/27/2009

"...as human beings we are capable of making sense of situations based on the thinnest slice of experience."

Malcolm Gladwell, author of Blink and The Tipping Point.

FOUL!!!!: Fans of Adam Lambert could have an explanation why the clearly more talented American Idol contestant lost. AT&T may have skewed the results by handing out free text messaging services at parties for winner Kris Allen's fans in Arkansas. Allen just happens to be from Arkansas. AI rigged? Next thing you know we're going to find out baseball players take steroids or something. (RL)

THIS IS SAD: Let's just come out and say it: the Thin Slices crew does not watch Jon & Kate Plus 8. Why? Because we don't care. But the fact that they're marriage is breaking up on TV and the fact that Hulk Hogan and his wife ruined their marriage on TV, ought to force people connect the dots that make it obvious that unless you're Gene Simmons -- who, no matter what you think of him, is keenly aware that this is show biz and treats it accordingly -- reality TV is a pretty bad idea for your family. LOOKING FOR THE NEXT SUSAN BOYLE: USA Today is trying to find an American Susan Boyle -- someone who can sing like a bird whilst living a "normal life" -- who is easily dominating Britain's version of American Idol. We think the folks at USA Today should be careful what they ask for or they're going to be bombarded with videos of folks who only think they can sing like Boyle. Kind of like, um, American Idol. MAYBE IT WAS THE WEATHER: Turns out that the Memorial Day weekend wasn't a box office bonanza for movies, what with Terminator Salvation sucking wind --and getting weak reviews. We don't know about you, but given the pristine weather this weekend here in Toledo, it would be hard to sit around in a theater watching a bunch of androids whack a bunch of humans. (RL)
