Quentin Tarantino's weekend at the movies

"...as human beings we are capable of making sense of situations based on the thinnest slice of experience."

Malcolm Gladwell, author of Blink and The Tipping Point.

TARANTINO TIME: Film fans are gaga over the new Quentin Tarantino blood gusher Inglourious Basterds, in which the Third Reich gets its comeuppance by a bunch of Americans led by Brad Pitt. With that in mind, Thin Slices poses a few questions, with answers, of course, in a feature we call, "Funny You Asked." What are Tarantino's favorite war movies? Funny You Asked. Where can I find everything I wanted to know about this flick? Funny You Asked. And what does The Blade's Kirk Baird think of it? Funny You Asked. (By the way, we just made up this Funny You Asked thing on the spot, so if anyone knows anyone who already has a feature with that name, we're not copying it. We swear.) (RL)

BRETT AND BRIT: Here at Thin Slices, we have a soft spot for celebs who aren't afraid to poke fun at themselves. So kudos for Britney Spears for her bikini-clad guest appearance on David Letterman reading the Top 10 list. Speaking of divas, how about old Brett Favre coming back to the Vikings? And what's up with that dirty old hat he wore? We're with this guy when it comes to Favre. (RL)

THE BOYS ARE BACK: Boys? KISS? Yeah, actually, the old dudes in makeup are back, but they are indeed back, with a new album due in Ocotober and their first Detroit show in six years scheduled as well. This much is safe to predict: they will rock. (RL)

NO DIRECTION HOME: Oh, the song title puns are irresistible for this one: Bob Dylan, another Thin Slices hero, was confronted by a police officer when he was spotted wandering around in the rain in New Jersey. But we will resist the hard rain references and just leave it at that. Where we come from, you don't make fun of Bob. (RL)
