Crossword favorite returns

Wayne Robert Williams is back in The Blade, and crossword puzzle fans will likely rejoice.

The Blade began running a different crossword several months ago when Mr. Williams stopped editing the Los Angeles Times Daily Crossword Puzzle provided by the Tribune Media Service.

It was not a popular decision, and we received dozens of complaints about the replacement puzzle. Well, Mr. Williams is back doing crosswords and he's back in The Blade starting today.

He's been doing puzzles for 40 years and said in an e-mail that his approach remains the same.

“My crossword puzzle philosophy is quite simple. I try to use ordinary and interesting words in the diagram while keeping obscure words to a minimum,” he wrote.

“I use clues to control the difficulty level of the puzzle and to add to the fun of solving the puzzle.”
