'Good Morning America' dumps Adam Lambert

11/30/2009

"...as human beings we are capable of making sense of situations based on the thinnest slice of experience."

Malcolm Gladwell, author of Blink and The Tipping Point.

D'OH: Adam Lambert's risque American Music Awards performance Sunday was obviously designed to focus the spotlight on the American Idol runner-up's new album. Mission accomplished. But it also cost him a performance on Wednesday's Good Morning America. We at Thin Slices find the folderol around this to be kind of comical. Lambert's act was nothing we haven't seen for, oh, the past 40 years. Remember David Bowie feigning oral sex with guitarist Mick Ronson? How about virtually everything Madonna has done over the years? What about Janet Jackson's routine? It's all about spectacle and, as anyone who actually listened to that abomination of a song that Lambert was hyping, it has very little to do with actual music. If Lambert's willing to squander a great voice on dreck, then of course he needs gimmicky gigs to sell himself. We are not shocked. (RL)

FALL OUT: Let the bad puns reign as we fill in some of the blanks from Sunday night's American Music Awards. Starting with the fall-out from J.Lo taking a tumble (get it, fall out?). The clean-cut Taylor Swift cleaned up on awards, Jay-Z proved that the secret to a good performance is having a great song (having Alicia Keys on hand doesn't hurt either), and finally, Paula Abdul showed up backstage.
