Tennis lovers are having a ball

Tennis is totally awesome in Toledo. And the opportunity is for everyone.

Country clubs all have tennis courts and there are private tennis clubs around town too, including Toledo Tennis Club, Laurel Hills Swim and Tennis Club, Shadow Valley Tennis Club, and Perrysburg Tennis Club.

And there are plenty of public courts around town, from Jermain Park in Toledo to city courts in Maumee and Perrysburg, area high school courts, and courts tucked away in places like Side Cut Metropark.

Some groups including the Toledo Ski Club meet for tennis all season long. Then there are some including the Advertising Club of Toledo, which hosts a single fun night.

The AdClub's first AdIN tennis event was June 4 at Shadow Valley Tennis Club. Tennis lovers played singles and doubles tennis while supporters cheered them on.

Meanwhile, the social night included food and libations in Shadow Valley's 40 Love Lounge. Mmm... chicken salad, meatballs, homemade salsa, and veggies and hummus were complemented by ice-cold refreshments.

The club's next social sporting event is the AdBASH volleyball tourney in August.

Carranor Hunt and Polo Club's Annual Field Day was May 31 after the city parade, an folks are still laughing over all the fun.

Children competed in a variety of outdoor games such as three-legged race, long jump, and softball throw while many members played tennis on the outdoor courts. Then everyone enjoyed a traditional Memorial Day feast of burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and more, including watermelon and ice cream.

The committee members for the event were Nicole LeBoutillier, Harry Shaw, Granger Souder, and Brenda Irwin.
