Fort Meigs prepares for annual siege

First Siege 1813, commemorating the 198th anniversary of the first siege of Fort Meigs, is scheduled at the historic site at 29100 West River Rd., Perrysburg. Re-enactors will portray American and British soldiers and Woodland Indians for re-created battles, musket and artillery firings, and camp life demonstrations. Interpretive talks, children's games, a court-martial, and a ladies' tea also are among activities Saturday and Sunday, when the fort is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $4 for students. Toledo will celebrate Memorial Day weekend with a downtown parade beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at Summit and Monroe streets. The route continues north on Summit, then west on Jackson Boulevard, finishing at Civic Center Mall.

Chicago band Shanghai Superstars will play Bowling Green's Howard's Club H Saturday night. The four-member alternative band that mixes in pop and reggae includes lead guitarist Wes Anderson, a former Toledoan. The band's music sounds a bit like Sublime or No Doubt, and its new CD is due later this year. Doors open at 8 p.m. at the club at 210 North Main St., and ticket prices have not been determined. Twylite Thursdays begins its second season Thursday night at the Pinnacle, 1772 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee. Through Sept. 8, local nonprofit groups will host a weekly evening of entertainment, light dining, and mingling, with profits going to charity. The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursdays on the Twylite Terrace (or in the ballroom if it rains). Thursday night will feature DJ Sydney Marious and will benefit Leadership Toledo. Other entertainers this summer include Dan and Don, Ballet Folklorico Imagenes Mexicanas, Skoobie Snaks, David Browning, Ragtime Rick, and the acoustic guitar trio Shutterwood. Country singer-songwriter Colt Ford will be performing Thursday night in Headliners, 4500 North Detroit Ave. Born in Athens, Ga., Ford was a professional golfer before turning to music and releasing his first album, "Ride Through the Country," in 2008. The Lunch at Levis Square downtown concert series begins from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday with the jazz sounds of the Touched trio. The concerts run Thursdays through August at Madison Avenue and North St. Clair St. Scheduled for June are Rob Storm, June 2; Bliss, June 9; Extra Stout, June 16; Glass City Steel, June 23, and Barcode, June 30.
