3 festivals on tap in Toledo this weekend

This weekend will feature a melting pot of ethnic festivals in the Toledo area celebrating Irish, Indian, and Latino heritage and cultures.

Expect lively music, food you might have never tried, and good times.

Huron Street between Monroe and Washington streets in downtown Toledo will be closed off for the Hibernian Irish Festival beginning Friday night and continuing through Saturday. Admission is $5 and the event will be from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday and 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday.

The street festival will include the sights, sounds and foods of Ireland as national and local musicians and dancers explore Irish culture.

The entertainment schedule is:

Friday -- Ardan Academy Irish Dancers, 7 p.m.; Brigid's Cross (BC2) Paul and Peggy, 7:30 p.m.; The Bloody Tinth, 9 p.m.; and Roger Drawdy and the Firestarters, 10:30 p.m.

Saturday -- Molly Dancers, 4 p.m.; Extra Stout, 4:30 p.m. Ardan Academy Irish Dancers, 5:30 p.m. Extra Stout, 6 p.m.; Ardan Academy Irish Dancers, 7 p.m. Roger Drawdy and the Firestarters, 7:30 p.m.; Brigid's Cross (BC2) Paul and Peggy, 9 p.m.; and The Bloody Tinth, 10:30 p.m.

The 17th Annual Ohio's South of the Border Festival will raise money for the Perrysburg Heights Community Center Friday from 4:30 p.m. to midnight and Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to midnight.

The festival will include food, dancing, rides, and games for children and a musical performances by Los Temibles (The Fearsome), Los Hermanos Villegas, Ruben Ramos y La Familia and Tejano Sound Band. The headline performer will be Grammy winning Austin band Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution.

Admission is $10 for anyone 13 and older and $2 for children ages 2 to 11. A weekend pass for adults only is $18. The festival is at the Perrysburg Heights Community Park, 12282 Jefferson St., Perrysburg.

The Festival of India at the Hindu Temple and Heritage Hall, 4336 King Rd., in Sylvania, covers three days -- Friday through Sunday -- but only Saturday's events are open to the public. The other two days feature various religious ceremonies and activities for Temple members only.

The Temple will be open to the general public for free on Saturday and there will be folk dances and musical performances, Henna tattooing, and the sale of contemporary jewelry and clothing. And of course there will be traditional Indian food.
