Pop star Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, a Disney actress and singer, have broken up, ending a relationship that made them one of Hollywood’s most high-profile young couples, media reports said.

Bieber, 18, and Gomez, 20, disclosed their relationship in February, 2011, when they appeared together at an Oscar night party after months of rumors of their dating.

E! Online was the first to report the split.

Bieber has released two No. 1 albums in just over a year — the holiday-themed “Under the Mistletoe” and his latest, “Believe.” In September, he topped Billboard’s “21 Under 21” list of top young musical acts. It was his second year in a row with the title.

Gomez rose to fame as a teenager in the Walt Disney Co television series “Wizards of Waverly Place” and has enjoyed success as a pop singer.

Anne Hathaway credits her new husband Adam Schulman for helping her get through the grueling filming of the screen adaptation of Les Miserables.

In Les Mis, the 30-year-old actress plays Fantine, a struggling, sickly mother forced into prostitution in 1800s Paris.

Hathaway lost 25 pounds and cut her hair for the role. She tells the December issue of Vogue, the part left her in a “state of deprivation, physical and emotional.” She felt easily overwhelmed and says Shulman was understanding and supportive.

The couple wed in September in Big Sur, Calif.

The December issue of Vogue hits stores Nov. 20.

Accusations

Authorities are investigating an allegation by the mother of Modern Family star Ariel Winter that her daughter’s 18-year-old boyfriend had unlawful sex with the 14-year-old actress, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

The L.A. County Sheriff”s Department’s Special Victims Unit also is separately examining whether Winter’s mother, Chrisoula Workman, physically abused the teenage actress.

So far, detectives have not gathered any specific evidence to substantiate the allegations in either investigation involving Ariel, otherwise known to millions as Alex Dunphy, the brainy member of Modern Family’s Dunphy family.

Sandy aid

Rachael Ray is donating $500,000 to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to help pets and families who are struggling to rebound from Superstorm Sandy.

The Emmy-winning chef’s pet food brand, Nutrish, is also shipping 4 tons of wet and dry dog food for Sandy animals, and her Yum-o! organization is donating $100,000 to City Harvest and the Food Bank for New York City.

“When you make your living in food, you have to give back in the same way,” the host of Rachael Ray, the syndicated CBS Television show, said.

The ASPCA will use the money to lease a building that can be used as a central shelter for Sandy animals and to continue searching for lost pets, provide mobile veterinary services, and hand out supplies.

Carrie Fisher honored

Writer-actress Carrie Fisher has been honored for her candor in dealing with her bipolar disorder and raising awareness about the condition. Fisher received the Utah Film Center’s Kim Peek Award for Disability in Media on Friday night in Salt Lake City.

Film center founder Geralyn Dreyfous praised Fisher for sharing her disorder with humor, defiance, and grace. Fisher says people face a choice of being a victim or “taking it on and flying in the face of it.”
