30th Rib-Off sets

A trio of rib experts emerged victorious at the 30th annual Northwest Ohio Rib-Off.

Deet’s BBQ of Maumee seized the local prize for best ribs. New Jersey’s Butch's Smack Your Lips BBQ, which has won more than 600 awards over two dozen years, won the national award.

Hollywood Casino Toledo was recognized by celebrity judges as overall champion.

Judges on the celebrity panel included Mayor Mike Bell, Tony Packo, and TV and radio personalities.

The four-day contest, held over the weekend at the Lucas County Fairgrounds, featured 10 competitors. About 80,000 attended, a Rib-Off record.
