Irish sayings to get you in the mood

Getting into the spirit of St. Patrick's Day means more than consuming beer and feasting on corned beef and cabbage. Those who take their mission seriously will want to sprinkle their conversations with a bit of true Irish slang. To that end, here are a few Irish sayings culled from such websites as irishslang.-info, slang.ie and irishcentral.com.

"Head on you like a handball alley!" — To have an enormous head.

"Top of the range" — Pleased with the outcome.

"Bog trotter" — Someone from rural parts.

"I could eat a reverend mother" — Extremely hungry.

"Face like the back of a bus" — An unattractive person.

"Horse faced" — To be extremely drunk.

"Snogged" — Another name for kissed.

"Frigid" — Someone who hasn't snogged anyone in their entire life

"Bananas" — Very drunk.

"Banjaxed" — Broken.

"We're sucking diesel now" — Things are going well.

"She's so ugly the tide wouldn’t take her out" — The lady is aesthetically challenged.

"He is an awful long string of misery" — That man is rather tall and skinny.

"I'm as sick as a small hospital" — I am feeling rather ill today.
