HUDSON - Thomas D. Grubb, a farmer who also operated a scrap dealership, died yesterday in the Hillsdale Community Health Center. Family members did not know the cause of death. He was 82.

Mr. Grubb was a longtime area farmer in nearby Pittsford Township who over the years grew corn, wheat, and soybeans on his 181-acre farm, Bertha Grubb, his wife, said. In recent years, Mr. Grubb scaled back the number of acres he cultivated. His son, Joe, helped with farm chores.

In addition, Mr. Grubb also raised a few beef cattle. Besides farming, Mr. Grubb owned T&B Sales, buying scrap iron and other metals, processing it, and reselling it.

Mr. Grubb and his wife met after their families became neighbors. They were married in 1953.

"We lived side by side," Mrs. Grubb said. "My folks bought the farm next to theirs."

In his spare time, Mr. Grubb enjoyed fishing in small area lakes, catching mostly bluegill.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha; daughters, Cathy Henning and Patricia Shaw; son, Joe; six grandchildren, and great-granddaughters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Eagle Funeral Home, where the body will be after 6 p.m. today.

The family requests tributes to a charity of the donor's choice.
